I am a freelance Sound Recordist and Boom Operator with 8 years of experience. As a Sound Recordist I have worked on a range of broadcast and corporate projects, and also a few short films.
As a Boom Operator I have worked on a number of feature films and dramas including 'Seachd: The Inaccessible Pinnacle','Dangerous Parking', and 'The Football Factory'.
I also work as a Sound Engineer / Sound Assistant on a variety of live sporting and outside broadcast events ranging from Scottish Premier League, English Premiership and UEFA Champions League Football to Question Time.
I am based in Edinburgh, Scotland, but travel extensively and am not afraid of a challenge. If I can put up with the cold of Antarctica and Alaska, the heat of Kenya and Australia, the humidity of the Peruvian Amazon and the incessant biting prowess of the midges on the Western Isles of Scotland, then anything's possible.
I own my own sound kit which includes an SQN 5S mixer, Sennehiser 416 gun mic, personal mics, radio Mics, various digital recorders (timecode and non-timecode), , and numerous cables and accessories. A full kit list and rates are available on request.
I graduated with a BEng(Hons) Engineering with Management degree from Napier University, Edinburgh, in 1994 and joined the Rover Group in Oxford in 1995. I decided that building cars wasn't for me so after 8 months I left to study Music Production at the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Glasgow. I transferred midway to their college in Sydney, Australia, where I completed my Audio Engineering Diploma.
I returned to Australia for a further year where I worked as a Stagehand at TCN Channel Nine Television in Sydney on a variety of live and recorded studio shows and OB's. I also worked regularly for Fox Sports on their NRL Rugby League coverage.
In Summer 2000 I started work with Transmission (TX) at Shepperton Studios as a Sound Recordist. Over the next two years I worked on many broadcast and corporate projects both at home and abroad. Regular clients included 'Top Of The Pops', 'Crimewatch', and BP. Coupled with this I often worked as a Boom Operator on the BBC drama 'Doctors'.
I went freelance(again)in 2002 and since then have worked on a variety of films, dramas, live sports and other outside broadcasts around the UK and abroad.
